Brokeback Christian (Part One)

I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and you have found them to be liars. You also possess endurance and have tolerated [many things] because of My name, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you: you have abandoned the love [you had] at first. (Revelation 2:2-4 HCSB)

With all the hubub over that silly movie “Brokeback Mountain” I thought I’d make a comment or two for everyone to ponder. It has also been a while since a substantial theological/practical post has been made, so here goes.

We get so offended by movies about homosexuals (Brokeback Mountain) and morbid torture films (Hostel; The Passion of the Christ) but has anyone gotten offended by the whoredom of the modern church?

Having not seen the film, apparently, in Brokeback Mountain, 2 cowboys (who are both or one of them is married) end up having attraction to each other. This attraction totally screws their lives and their families up. In my opinion, the reason it messes things up is not so much that they are gay, but because they have a relationship with each other, thereby causing them to be unfaithful to their wives. Let’s apply this to the Christian walk.

All too many times we do the same thing. We are attracted to something that is not our first love. We are attracted and act on that attraction and thereby go whoreing after those things which will never satisfy and only lead us to ruin. Yet, no one gets offended by this do they?

We turn the church over to self-help gurus and heretical business men with no second thoughts and yet we get pissed and offended at a film about homosexual cowboys?

Granted, the film is being used by the homosexual agenda as propaganda to promote their ideology. And, in fact, I am not at all pro-the-film. But we need to look at the log stabbed into our own eye before we can clean up the little speck of dirt in our brother’s.

Sorry this wasn’t more detailed. I’ll add more and expand these ideas later. I must be off to class.

To be continued….
