For my Ministry Practicum class, I had to do some sort of ministry project. The project morphed from starting a house church to laying the foundational doctrines of the house church that I would like to start. This is by no means complete, but it is a rough outline and what I am presenting to the class today. Please comment if you so feel moved. I have underlined some words. Their definition is at the bottom of the page.
The name (Proorizo) comes from the Greek word for “Predestined”.
W Proorizo Fellowship W
W. The Mission Statement of Proorizo Fellowship:
We are an organic, missional community who seeks to love God and serve Him only through:
W. The proclaiming of the gospel,
W. The exposition of the Scriptures,
W. Helping the poor and the oppressed,
W. Environmental stewardship, and
W. Worshipping together in Christian unity.
W. Our core doctrines are spelled out in the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
He came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy universal and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
W. Our beliefs regarding the Scriptures:
The Bible is God’s story. It consists of various genres of literature including: Histories, Poems, Narrative Stories, Words of Wisdom, Apocalyptic Literature, and Prophesy. God penned the words of Scripture by inspiration through human hands such that each author’s individual personality shines through.
The Bible is inerrant in the original autographs.
The Bible is made up of the Old and New Testaments. The books in what is commonly named “The Apocrypha” are useful only insofar as they do not contradict the Old and New Testaments containing the accepted 66 books.
W. Our beliefs regarding mankind:
Mankind was made in the image of God as male and female. Men and women, because of being in the likeness of God, have inherent worth and value.
All human life is sacred.
W. Our beliefs regarding sin:
Mankind was created blameless, but, through an act of his own will, fell out of this state of perfection. This original sin became a malady passed on from generation to generation.
All men and women are born with a natural inclination toward sin, and will act on this inclination unless Divinely prompted to do otherwise.
W. Our beliefs regarding atonement:
At the cross, payment was made for the sins of mankind. Not one type of sin was neglected in this atonement save for the unpardonable sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Atonement is only effective for those who claim Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior through faith.
Organic – This word only applies to form and not to doctrine. Our form is not as set in stone as a more traditional church. We are willing to change and grow in the house church setting as God would have us. Later, if God blesses with numerical growth, we will become more nailed down as far as our form is concerned.
Missional – We hold firmly that “all believers are active missionaries of Christ in their daily lives.”
